Bright House Networks Sponsors HSHC Survivor Program
The Humane Society for Hamilton County's Survivor Program is now sponsored by Bright House Networks, one of central Indiana's leading providers of digital video, voice and high-speed Internet services. Bright House Networks has agreed to provide financial support to the Survivor program through 2010 and help the agency through some joint advertising ventures to raise awareness about the program and its needs.
The Humane Society for Hamilton County's Survivor program treats dogs and cats of all ages and sizes that have been hurt, abused, neglected and abandoned and wind up at the facility in need of emergency care. They provide needed treatment, start them down the path of recuperation and work to then get them adopted into loving and caring homes.
"We are thrilled to have Bright House Networks financially support our efforts to provide critical medical care for animals that would otherwise not survive their unfortunate circumstances," said Humane Society for Hamilton County Executive Director Rebecca Stevens. "Each animal poses the same difficult question to us. Do we use our limited funds to save their life? It's a difficult decision we face each and every time."

Top Ten Sun Safety Tips from Out Run the Sun
Warmer weather means people spend more time outdoors. Here are ways to enjoy yourself safely while reducing the hazards that come with too much exposure to the sun.
- Generously apply sunscreen that protects you and your children from the sun's UVA and UVB rays. Whether you're on the beach, golfing, swimming, running, cycling or watching a ballgame—don't forget the sunscreen.
- Apply sunscreen 15 minutes prior to going outdoors so that it has time to absorb into your skin to provide the most benefit.
- Wear sunglasses with UVB and UVA protection to help prevent cataracts and ocular melanoma.
- Wear protective clothing such as wide-brimmed hats and long sleeves, or seek clothing with a built-in Sun Protection Factor (SPF).
- Seek shade, especially when the sun's rays are the strongest, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
- Be extra careful near water, sand, or snow as they reflect the damaging rays of the sun.
- Get your vitamin D safely through diet and vitamin supplements, not through excessive sun exposure.
- Avoid tanning beds and their harmful ultraviolet rays.
- Perform skin self-exams and visit a trained dermatologist annually for a complete skin exam.
- Look for fun outdoor evening events for you and your family like the annual Outrun the Sun Race Against Melanoma.
